Hellers Leap by Tony Roberts – featured in The Imaginariad Collection
Tony Roberts is a defining voice in the golden age of British science fiction art, renowned for his bold visions of starships, strange worlds, and futuristic frontiers. Born in 1950 in the Midlands, he studied Fine Art before launching a career in the early 1970s that saw him commissioned by major publishers across the UK and internationally.
His work has illuminated the covers of countless novels by some of the genre’s greatest names, including Isaac Asimov, Frank Herbert, Robert Heinlein, and Ursula K. Le Guin. Beyond publishing, Roberts contributed concept art for award-winning filmmaker Roger Christian and lent his imagination to film and advertising projects. He helped reshape the visual language of SF during its 1970s–80s boom, an era when collectors and auction houses began to recognise the cultural value of original illustration.
